Old Port is Chillville’s seaside borough on the east coast near Salt Bay, built around old harbours, yellow sand beaches, and brick alleyways draped with drying kelp.
Once a thriving fishing town, the community reinvented itself after the Fishing Ban by turning to kelp farming and shellfish beds, helping restore the bay’s famously clear waters.
Today, tourism and the sea go hand in hand. At sunrise, kelp boats head out across the bay while locals open their shops for the season. Kids still dive from The Swimming Steps every morning, and by sunset the harbour fills with tourists, glowing boat signs, sea-glass hunters, and busy waterfront restaurants.
